Research is Back 1 is a series of peer-to-peer workshops on academic writing and research. It includes a series of eight-week workshops for 3rd/4th-year and master students of the Faculty of Philology of the University of Belgrade. The goal of the project is to equip students of the Faculty on how to successfully write an academic article, conduct research and participate in scientific conferences over the course of one academic year. More importantly, the project aims to plant the seed of positive critical thinking and provide our students, through activities conducted in English, with soft skills on how to improve their overall quality of academic writing, develop fruitful research, prepare their articles for national/international journals and present their work at national/international academic conferences. The team behind the project also wishes to shift the attitude of students and set a positive example that academic work is profoundly interesting, inspiring and beneficial to our society.
Research is Back 2 is the continuation of the RiB project and it offers peer-to-peer workshops on academic writing and research to students in Novi Sad, Kragujevac, Niš and Belgrade. It includes a series of six-module workshops for 3rd/4th-year and master students of language and literature. The project also includes a handbook Research is Back: Introduction to Academic Writing (eds. Tara Pešić & Jovana Milovanović) authored by 7 project team members (Milica Mastilo, Sara Arva, Anka Rađenović, Olga Arsić, Mila Dragić, Tara Pešić & Jovana Milovanović). The handbook serves as a permanent free resource for students of different universities who are entering the world of academic writing.
The future of the project. Under the Research is Back umbrella, the team organizes regular meetings for PhD students that focus on different issues relevant for this level of study. The first event of this sort was a PhD breakfast organized at the Faculty of Philology which brought together over 40 PhD students from different faculties of the University of Belgrade. The topic discussed were the failures that the participants had encountered while working on their PhD and ways to overcome them. The second event was a group trip to Avala mountain, which helped strengthen the Research is Back Community. The third event was organized at the Faculty of Forestry, where almost 40 PhD students from different faculties exchanged experiences related to finding a good mentor and a suitable topic. These events will continue in the future. Stay tuned!
